As part of the Skills Integration Lab 2 Phase 1 course, I collaborated with four teammates (Simon De Clerck, Bram Van Eccelpoel, Brent Paessens, and Wout Jansegers) to develop a prototype for our internal client, Mr. Stef Van Wolputte from the IT Factory at Thomas More Geel. This assignment challenged us to think creatively and work closely with the client to transform his ideas into a structured prototype using modern digital tools.
Our goal was to design and deliver clear, functional prototypes that met the client's expectations. We focused on creating user-friendly designs and establishing a well-organized workflow.
Throughout this project, I developed important skills such as working efficiently in a team, accurately tracking time using Clockify, designing professional prototypes with Figma, and managing tasks and sprints effectively using Jira.
SKIL2 Project Semester 2
During the Skills Integration Lab 2 Phase 2 course, we were tasked with improving the prototypes created by another group during semester 1. In a new team consisting of Bram Van Eccelpoel, Sander Wijns, Jelle Wils, Natan Wojtowicz, and Daan Borghs, we worked together to design a more refined prototype using Figma. Our internal client this time was Mrs. Kristine Mangelshots, who requested a simple web application to manage swimming lessons and parties organized at Hotel Kempenrust (visit website).
After receiving approval for our new prototype, we proceeded to develop the actual web application using PhpStorm. We collaborated closely with our client to ensure the application matched her expectations and needs.
Throughout this project, I learned to adapt quickly to working in a new team and with a new client. I further improved my skills in time tracking with Clockify, task management with Jira, and I took responsibility for maintaining the stand-up meeting logs and retrospectives, ensuring that project updates and reflections were consistently documented.
Web Development Project
During the Web Development course in the first semester, I was given the opportunity to work on an individual project with a self-chosen concept. I decided to create a web application called Lytransify, short for 'lyrics translate.' The application displays artists and songs, and allows users to view original lyrics alongside translations into the different languages spoken in Belgium.
I really enjoyed working on this project and am still proud of the result, both in terms of design and functionality. Through this assignment, I learned how to work independently using technologies such as Tailwind CSS, Laravel, and Mailpit within PhpStorm. It was certainly a challenge, but a very rewarding experience. My teacher, Patrick Verhaert, provided a strong theoretical foundation that helped me confidently start and complete the project.
IoT Project
During the academic year 2023–2024, we were asked to form our own teams for the Internet of Things (IoT) course in the second semester. In our group, consisting of Emma Grigoryan and Abubakar Aslanovich Sadaev, we worked with various technologies such as the Orange Pi, Raspberry Pi Pico, AI-driven cameras, and several types of sensors. The tasks were divided among us, and at the end of the project, we merged all components into one complete and functional system, resulting in a highly successful project.
My responsibility was to configure the Nokia LED Display, capture the lux values via a LED lamp, transmit the data to ThingSpeak, and retrieve the results back through the Orange Pi. The connection was established successfully, and the lux values were displayed live on the LED display.
Throughout this project, I learned how to work with the Raspberry Pi Pico, a technology I was unfamiliar with before. I also developed greater patience and problem-solving skills, which were essential to successfully complete this challenging assignment.
Our final result can be viewed on YouTube: Watch the Demo.
